CPU Requirements

The number of CPUs in an office is based on the number of MediNotes users. Each CPU is only capable of 30 simultaneous connections to the MediNotes database. For example:

1 CPU: 1-30 MediNotes Users
2 CPUs: 31-60 MediNotes Users

Databases vs. Servers

For each MediNotes database required for the office, 1 Windows Server will be required. To ensure optimal performance and full application functionality, two databases may not reside on a single server.

Wireless Networking
We have found that in most instances 802.11(b) wireless to be unsatisfactory in transmitting MediNotes e data at the speeds required by a busy office. MediNotes recommends the use of 802.11 (a) , (g) or higher, or the use of terminal services or Citrix with slower wireless systems.

Free Drive Space
It is important to have enough information to initially install the program, but also additional drive space to allow your database and log files to grow.

Drives
It is important to have a 3.5" Floppy Drive and a CD Rom on each machine using the program (it is possible, but slightly more difficult to use shared drives across the office network). Since the CD is only used for installation, speed is not the highest concern. Since the CD will auto-run, it is a good idea to have this enable on all of your office computers.

Hard Drive
The database of MediNotes e™ resides on your main file server. Depending on the number of patients seen in your office, and the volume of their records, the hard drive of the server will need to be able to accommodate between 300 MB and 1 GB of free hard drive space. Over time the database will grow as patients and documents are added to the program. With hard drive costs so low, it's better to error on the side of caution and make sure that your server hard drive has plenty of hard drive space - remember you'll need to store information from other programs as well.

Supported Backup Types
You can use any type of backup device in your office, but MediNotes Corporation recommends and supports the use of disk-based media: Zip 250/750 and Orb 2.2. We have these devices in our office, and our staff is knowledgeable in their use. If a database would ever need to be sent in for analysis, only these media types will be accepted.

• Write-able CD's will also be accepted, but our staff will not necessarily be knowledgeable in how to write the file to the CD with your particular CD Writer and it's software.
• Tape backups are excellent for backing up large quantities of information, but lack the ability to easily extract one file for restoration. A good backup practice would be to backup your whole system to a tape drive, and then backup your MediNotes e™ directory to an alternate disk media as well.

Networks / Server
MediNotes Corporation recommends that a trained networking consultant inspect and upgrade your network, if necessary, to the proper specifications for use. It would be wise to have this individual call the MediNotes technical support department so they may be briefed on how MediNotes e™ is utilized on a network.
